Scottish Borders Councillor for Jedburgh and District
Sandy farms at Dolphinston, Jedburgh - a beef and sheep organic enterprise - in partnership with his son, Peter. Educated in Edinburgh and at the Scottish Agricultural College, he spent three years in Australia and New Zealand before starting to farm on his own at Muircleuch, Lauder. He returned to farm at Dolphinston 34 years ago. He has played rugby for Jed Forest and is a former secretary and chairman of the Jed Forest Hunt.
Sandy was first elected in 1995 and, after losing the election in 1999, was re-elected to the council in 2003, 2007 and 2012. In 2017 Sandy was elected again with an increased share of the vote alongside Scott Hamilton. They were both re-elected in 2022.
