Potential closure of Coldstream care home a 'real blow', says local MP
John Lamont MP has said the potential closure of Victoria Lodge care home in Coldstream will be a "real blow" to the local community, including its residents and staff.
The Victoria Lodge home, which has a dozen residents and employs two dozen staff, is expected to close in July.
Borders MP John Lamont said: “The potential closure of this facility will be deeply worrying for residents who rely on the care and stability that Victoria Lodge provides.
"Shutting this home risks causing significant distress at a very vulnerable time in their lives.
"I am also concerned about the impact the potential closure could have on local jobs as many dedicated staff work at the care home.
"Going ahead with this closure would be a real blow to the wider Coldstream community, where it plays an important and valued role.
"I have spoken to the owner to seek clarity on the situation, and I have contacted Scottish Borders Council to understand how they will support the residents and staff going forward.
"I will do whatever I can to try to prevent this closure and keep the care home operating for the benefit of the local community."
