John Lamont MP calls on Royal Mail to reverse Paxton post box removal

John Lamont MP has called on Royal Mail to rethink its decision not to replace a post box in Paxton village, warning that the move will disproportionately affect elderly and vulnerable residents.

The post box was damaged earlier this year in a road traffic accident.

However, rather than replacing the facility, Royal Mail has indicated that residents should instead use an alternative post box.

Mr Lamont, who has written to Royal Mail about the decision, said it had prompted significant concern among local residents, many of whom have contacted him to express their frustration.

John Lamont MP said: “I have been contacted by a large number of residents in Paxton who are extremely concerned by Royal Mail’s decision to remove this important local facility.

“The post box in the village centre was used regularly by many people, particularly older residents who rely on it as a convenient and accessible way of sending letters, bills and other important documents.

"The alternative is a longer and far more difficult journey, which is impractical for a village with a high number of elderly residents.

“This decision should be reversed. I have contacted Royal Mail to urge them to think again and ensure that Paxton residents continue to have safe and straightforward access to a post box."
