Michelle Ballantyne MSP readoption

The Association is thrilled to be able to announce the readoption of well-known candidate Michelle Ballantyne for the parliamentary constituency of Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale (MSTL). 

Readoption of Rachael Hamilton MSP

The Association is delighted to announce that at a meeting of its members residing in the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire Scottish parliamentary constituency held in Ednam Village Hall on 5th April 2019, Rachael Hamilton was readopted as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the election

Association AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Borders Conservative & Unionist Association was held at the Buccleuch Arms, St Boswells at 7.00 p.m. on Monday 2nd March. In the course of the meeting the report for the Association's activities for the year ending 31st December 2014 was presented and officers for the coming year were elected. The Association's two campaign managers then reported on campaigning activities in Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk and Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale. John Lamont MSP, the PPC for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk talked about the collapse in support for the Liberal Democrats and the shift of much of their backing to the SNP and Councillor Michelle Ballantyne, leader of the Conservative group, reported on developments at Scottish Borders Council.

Christmas lunch 2014

The Association held its Christmas lunch on Sunday 14th December at the Cross Keys Hotel in Kelso. Some 80 members attended the lunch and heard Highland and Islands MSP Sir Jamie McGrigor speak about past campaigns and the forthcoming general election. Sir Jamie very kindly donated a couple of raffle prizes, drew the raffle and also auctioned a Holyrood cookbook. In thanking the speaker, John Lamont MSP noted that Sir Jamie had paid us the compliment of arriving early, a feat that he was not known for in Holyrood.

Chancellor visits St Boswells

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, stopped off at the Mainstreet Trading Company, St Boswells on Friday 4th July and took the opportunity to meet a small group of Borders business people in order to hear about the challenges that they are facing. Whilst the Chancellor did not promise to wave a magic wand and solve all of these problems instantly, the hour he spent talking and listening allowed him to take away a ‘shopping list’ of concerns for further thought and for discussions with colleagues about what could be done to help.

Duncan and Lamont visit Mainetti

Dr Ian Duncan, top of the Scottish Conservative list for this May's European elections, and John Lamont, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Westminster constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk, spent the morning of Friday 11 May at the Jedburgh factory of Mainetti.

Trevor Adams for Hawick & Denholm

Trevor Adams, who has spent the last 25 years working around Hawick and across the Borders, has recently been selected by the local Conservative Association for the upcoming Hawick & Denholm by-election, which will take place as a consequence of the passing of Councillor Zandra Elliot earlier in the year.

Lamont wins Open Primary

John Lamont MSP has won the first open primary to select a parliamentary candidate in Scotland. This will be the third time John has contested the Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk seat, where in 2010 he increased the Conservative share of the vote by 6.8%. Inaugural meeting of Berwickshire branch

The newly formed Berwickshire branch of the Scottish Borders Conservative and Unionist Association held its first meeting on 21 October 2013 in Coldstream, at which Robert Greenshields (pictured right) was elected branch chairman.
