John Lamont MP has announced the winners of his 2026 competition to crown the best pubs in the Scottish Borders.

The competition once again attracted a strong response from local residents, with nominations submitted for a wide range of establishments across the region.

The overall winner was The Black Swan in Kelso, which received significant support from voters and stood out for its quality offering and service.

Awards were also given to Auld Cross Keys Inn in Denholm and The Blackadder in Greenlaw, which were named winners for Teviotdale and Berwickshire.

Highly commended recognition went to Yetholm’s  The Plough, Earlston’s Swan Bar and Morebattle’s Templehall Inn.

Scottish Borders MP, John Lamont, said: “I was delighted to once again recognise some of the fantastic pubs we have here in the Borders.

"These venues play an important role in bringing people together and creating a real sense of community.

“The number of nominations this year shows just how much people value their local pubs and the hardworking staff who keep them running.

“Pubs have faced significant challenges in recent years, especially from high bills for energy and business rates, but it’s encouraging to see so many continuing to thrive and deliver excellent service for their customers.

“Congratulations to everyone at The Black Swan on being named overall winner. It is well-deserved recognition for their excellent work.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate their favourite pub and support local businesses across the Borders.”
